Who We Are
About Us
Founded in 2019, the Caribbean Health & Wellness Foundation (CHWF) is a volunteer based 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated under the laws of New York state. CHWF was established to provide healthcare services to underserved communities in the Caribbean where access to quality health care is limited. Improving access to care is important for preventing and managing non-communicable diseases, reducing unnecessary disability and premature death, and achieving health equity for all.

Mission
To improve the health and wellness of individuals living in underserved communities in the Caribbean.
We accomplish this by:
- A volunteer workforce comprised of healthcare professionals and support personnel.
- Providing preventive healthcare services and community health education at no cost.
- Integrating evidence-based clinical strategies in community settings.
- Targeting resources to meet the specific needs of the communities we serve.
- Working with local health care providers on community health initiatives to foster sustainability.
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships, collaborations and strategic alliances.
Project Health ensures that cost isn’t a barrier to important preventive services. Our free health screenings can help identify health concerns or risk factors for individuals who don’t have access to care otherwise. Life threatening chronic illnesses such as Diabetes and Hypertension can be treated very effectively when identified early. This helps to improve a participants health status and well-being, as well as reducing costs for both the patient and the healthcare delivery system”.
– Dr. Latanya Bather, DNP, RN
Executive Director

The core of CHWF’s work is provided by volunteer doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, fitness coaches, and professional support personnel. Our interdisciplinary teams work together to provide preventive health screenings, health risk assessments, disease management and health promotion education to individuals and communities.
Together we aim to cultivate a culture of health and wellness, thus shaping healthier communities in the Caribbean.

Why CHWF? After tutoring students from middle to upper class families for over 7 years, it dawned on me how unaffordable tutoring really is for those who need it the most. Most of my students used my services to get them ahead of their peers in all their classes instead of them needing me to increase their grade or for understanding. At that moment the idea for CHWF came to me. I thought about the students from lower economic families and how they cannot afford the tutoring they need to pass the class and decided I wanted to make a difference and provide all students with the tutoring they need to help them be successful no matter their future ambitions.

Why CHWF? CHWF collectively, is a group that identified a need within the community and took steps to try to close the gap. This is what a strong community does, it steps up in a time of need. Why CHWF? Providing an opportunity for greater learning and development for children in the community brings me great joy. Every child deserves access to tutoring and be able to further education. CHWF will not only provide the access for these children but also bring them a sense of confidence and pride as they further and continue their education. “No child left behind” and here at CHWF we will be able to do just that.
